Lorraine Augusta Baacke (nee Schaffrick), 97, of Cedar Lake, Indiana, died July 15, 2017 at St. Anthony Nursing Home. She is survived by her 4 children: Judith Leslie Walker, Gerald (Carolyn) Baacke, Linda (fiancé- Ken McAllister) Kirkpatrick and Beverly (Bruce) James; sisters- in- law: Lucy Schaffrick, Diana Baacke, and Helen Baacke; 12 grandchildren: Terri Leslie, Julie Burk, Dan (Erica) Leslie, Todd (Kellie) Leslie and Scott (Jenny) Leslie; Brian (Lisa) Baacke, Kathrine (Scott) King, Greg (Sara) Baacke and Karen (Jason) Miller; John (Gretchen) Kirkpatrick, Josh (Danica) Kirkpatrick and James (Lynsi) Kirkpatrick; 30 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Tom Baacke, sons- in- law: Dan Leslie, Bill Walker, and Dan Kirkpatrick. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 24, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. DIRECTLY at Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church, 9770 Keilman Street, St. John, IN. Rev. John Kost officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Schererville, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family Sunday, July 23, 2017 from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 S. Cline Ave. (one-half mile south of U.S. 30) Schererville, IN. Lorraine was a 1937 graduate of Bowen High School. She went on to secretarial school and worked for Pepsodent. On June 14, 1941 she married Thomas Baacke. They moved from Chicago to Cedar Lake, Indiana in 1956. She quickly got involved in the community as a member of the PTA, substitute teacher, softball coach, supported her children in speed skating, and was a member of the Lake County Home Extension Club. She was a secretary for L&T Machine and Marbel Corp. At age 55 she studied cosmetology earning certification as a hair stylist and worked with her daughter, Bev, at Hair Shapers Salon. Church was her life. She was a current member of Holy Shepherd Lutheran Church in St. John, but previously attended Zion Lutheran Church in Chicago and Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Merrillville where she taught Sunday School and sang in the choir. She instilled her love for God in her children and anyone who was around her. Her passion was her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
