John R. Phelps

John R. Phelps, age 55, of Portage, passed away April 23, 2011. He is survived by his beloved mother, Marcia Phelps; two loving sons: Kyle and Jonathon Phelps; three loving brothers: Howard (Shelly) Phelps, Jr., Bill H. Phelps, and Jimmy (Diane) Phelps; two loving sisters: Diane (James) Mola and Joanne (Tom) Smedley; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews. Preceded in death by his dad, Howard; two uncles: Cecil and Gordon Phelps; one aunt, Betty Hammers; and cousin, Terry Lee Phelps. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 27, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave. (1/2 mile south of Rt. 30), Schererville, IN. Interment at Chapel Lawn Cemetery. Visitation Tuesday from 1:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to VNA Hospice. John enjoyed all sports, especially softball, golf, and basketball. He was a 1974 graduate of Calumet High School. Everyone loved him and will miss him dearly.
