John "Ted" McCracken, age 76, of Dyer, passed away peacefully at St. Margaret of Dyer on August 30, 2014, with his loving family at his side. Ted was born May 5, 1938 in West Plains, Missouri to the late John and Clara (Turner) McCracken. He married his wife of 51 years, Lorraine (Baut) McCracken. Of this union they had two sons: Tony (Beverly Mendenhall) McCracken and Patrick (Maria) McCracken. His brothers and sisters: Michael (Sandra) McCracken, Don (Shirley) McCracken, Dean (Vickie) McCracken, Linda (Dean) Alsip; brother and sister in laws: Wayne Vonallman, Margaret Zuklin, Sandra Koscieniak, Jaci (Lynn) Cowan, Steve (Karen) Baut; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Vonallman; and brother and sister in laws: Joe Koscieniak, John Zuklin and Joan Wilson. Ted McCracken was a lot manager for Dyer Auto Auction for over fifty years. He was a loving and devoted family man. A wonderful husband, great father, and good friend to many, and will be sorely missed by those who knew him. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 2, 2014 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 South Cline Ave. Schererville, IN 46375) Due to construction, If coming from west on Route 30, take Austin Ave South to 77th St. If coming from East on Route 30 take Burr Street south to 77th St. to Cline.
