Ferd was born to Ferdinand Roberts Ehrenzeller, Sr. and Olivia Finnesey Ehrenzeller on December 30, 1946 in Torrington, CT. After graduating from Munster High School in Indiana, he joined the military. He proudly served his country in the Vietnam War as a member of the 101st Infantry Division of the United States Army. While in the service, he met his wife Colleen O’Connor of Staten Island, NY, and they were wed on February 28th, 1971. After the birth of their second daughter, they settled in St. John, IN. Before retirement, he was employed as a systems analyst for prominent local firms and spent his free time cheering on his girls at dance competitions and loving on his dogs.
Ferd was proud of his career, his community and especially his family. However, nothing could compare to his pride in his two daughters. He would often be caught bragging of their achievements in the medical field but, even more importantly, on how they both are such amazing mothers and human beings. He shared his love of boats, the ocean and his favorite place in the world, Stone Harbor, NJ with friends and family. He began going there every year as a little boy and continued going and sharing his love for this special place with his wife, daughters and eventually his grandsons. You could see him beam with pride and be truly at peace when his whole family was together and all having fun at ‘The Shore.’
Ferd was preceded in death by his parents, Ferdinand and Olivia; and his brother, Robert. He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 53 years, Colleen O'Connor Ehrenzeller; their two “most favored” daughters, Jill (Joe) Deferville, and Jainie (Matt) Clark; and their five grandsons, Joey, Charlie, Ethan, Noah and Max; and of course, all the dogs that had the privilege of his love.
There will be a service for the immediate family on Friday, February 23rd. A Celebration of Life and Remembrance will occur at a date to be determined in Stone Harbor, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be provided to the ASPCA or Humane Indiana in memory of Ferd.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapelLawnFunerals.com for the Ehrenzeller family.
