Donald R Ritter Sr.

Donald R. Ritter Sr., age 69, of Crown Point, (formally of Hammond and Warsaw, IN) passed away peacefully on March 11, 2017 with his family at his side. Donald was born November 20, 1947 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Effinger and Alice (Barbauld) Ritter. Also preceding him in death are siblings, Janet Klein, Thomas Meyer and Effinger "Sonny" Ritter. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Susan (Powers) Ritter; children, Donald (Karen) Ritter Jr., Kimberly (Mark) Kaegebein, Jeffrey Ritter, Erin (Keith) Cales; grandchildren, Arianne Ritter, Matthew Ritter, Madeline Ritter, Aiden McClure, Isabelle Ritter, and Lochlan McClure; great grandchildren, Lucas Giordano and Gabriel Ritter; and a brother David (Linda) Ritter. Don was a 1965 graduate of Hammond Tech High School. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War as a Specialist 4 from 1969 to 1971. He was a member of American Legion Post #253 of North Webster, Indiana and VFW Post #7881 of Hessville. He provided over 35 years of faithful service at the Amoco Refinery in Whiting as an instrument and electrical supervisor. Don was a past Grand Knight of the Griffith Knights of Columbus Council #3631. He loved spending time with his family, especially at his place on the Barbee Lakes. His greatest pleasures were boating and swimming with his family on the lake. He will be greatly missed. Visitation will be Thursday, March 16, 2017 from 4-8 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, IN 46375). Funeral services will be Friday, March 17, 2017 at 11:00 am at Chapel Lawn. Burial will be held at a later date at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
