Betty J. Kern

Betty was born August 26, 1930 in Chicago to the late Myrtle Thompson. Also preceding her in death are her husbands John O'Hara and Raymond Kern; brothers, Edward Thompson, Bob Thompson, and Stan Thompson.

Left to cherish her memory are her 22 year companion, Jim Cassoday; children, Jean (Raymond) McGill and John O'Hara; grandchildren, Dawn (Arlon) Holley, Michelle McGill, Lori (Christopher) Pangburn, and John (Jillian) McGill; great grandchildren, Sophia, Amber, Christian, Hailey, Jonny, Danny, Brandon, and Rosalie; and Jim's children, Terri (Gary) Hulsey, Audrey Rothgeb, Leanna Cartwright and Judy Chiabai.

Betty enjoyed being a loving and devoted homemaker and caretaker for her family. She also taught ceramics at her home, and then later at St. Francis DeSalles Senior Citizen Center on the East side of Chicago. Betty was a strong, compassionate, creative, person, and will be remembered for her sense of humor. She loved her large family gatherings, where they played Uno, Bingo, and did puzzles.

Visitation will be Sunday, April 22, 2018 from 2-6 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Ave.; Crown Point, IN 46307). Funeral services will be on Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 am at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be given towards to Breast Cancer Awareness Association.
