Arthur George Burke, Sr., age 75 of Schererville, passed away peacefully with loving family by his side while at St. Anthony Hospital of Crown Point on Monday, March 15, 2010. Born January 4, 1935 in East Chicago, Arthur was the son of the late Edward James and Mildred Ida (nee Rau) Burke. He and his love, Juanita Brown, were wed May 21, 1955. As a young man, Arthur was a volunteer fireman for Dyer. a man of faith, he was a longtime member of Our Lady of Consolation Catholic Church of Merrillville. Arthur worked at US Railway of Blue Island, IL as a foreman and retired after 35 years of service. A Jack Of All Trades, Arthur could build or fix anything. He also enjoyed his gardens. A loving husband, father and grandfather, Mr. Burke will be remembered for his warmth, his great sense of humor, and also as a man who was a friend to all. Surviving to mourn his passing is his wife of 55 years, Juanita; five children: daughter, Cathy (Al) Metz of Mesa, AZ and their children: Natalie, Matthew and Rachel Metz; son, Artie (LuEllen) Burke, Jr. and his children: Sandi (Pete) Lewkowicz, Jennifer (Matt) Finn, Sarah Burke and Andrew Burke; son, Joseph Burke of Dyer, IN; daughter, Kristi (Joe) Irak of Crown Point and their children: Christopher and Nicholas; son, Jamie (Sherina) Burke of Oklahoma City, OK and their children: Dustin and Gabriel; six great grandchildren: Aiden, Charlee, Ryder, Coen, Wyatt and Micah; brother, Everett (Nettie) Burke of Dyer, IN; and sister, Janice (Glenn) Karczewski of Schererville, IN and their children: Todd and Karen; sister-in-law, Linda Smith of Oklahoma City, OK; as well as many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Waiting to greet him in Heaven are his parents and five siblings: Edward "Bud" Burke, Ruth (Palmer) Sliger, Blanche (Isaac) Newbolds, Paul Burke, and Raymond (Jackie) Burke.
