Thomas McCauley, 90, of Mt. Vernon, NY, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2021. He was born on December 20, 1930 and raised in Yonkers, NY. He married the love of his life, Marianne DiPalermo, on September 9, 1956.
Together they raised five children, first in the Bronx and then in Mt. Vernon, NY.
For the last nine years, he resided at Drum Hill in Peekskill.
Tom loved playing cards, “The Price is Right,” cooking, movies, painting the Bob Ross way, and singing—especially in imitation of Al Jolson. No one could sit with him for more than five minutes without being engaged in a rousing game of rummy or nickel poker, or hearing one of his favorite puns. When presented with a pair of golf socks, he mused he hoped he wouldn’t get a hole in one.
Tom was a deli man and caterer most of his adult life. He owned Blue Valley House of Cold Cuts in the Bronx for many years, and then, with his son Paul, PT’s Deli in Mt. Vernon NY from 1987 to 1993, where he was well-known for his food sculptures, such as the “watermelon whale.”
He also served his country during the Korean war in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Tom loved his family most of all. He is survived by his children: Linda, Paul, Peter and Adam and their spouses, Chester, Patti, Tina, Lauri; nine grandchildren: Michael, Bianca, Paul Jr (Michelle), Brandon, Lucas, Ryan, Faith, Brian and Dillon (Stephanie); four great grandchildren: Abby and Zachary (their mother Yuly), Paulie and Kevin; his sister, Lea Stevens, and niece Victoria Stevens Ross of Connecticut, and nieces Eileen, Colleen and Darlene of Florida, his sister-in-law, Frances Erigo, and nephews Mark and John.
He is predeceased by his wife, Marianne, his daughter Susan, and his sisters June and Carol.
A memorial service for immediate family and friends will be held on Saturday, August 14. Flowers may be sent to Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand St, Croton-On-Hudson, NY 10520
