Nazim later met the love of his life and future wife, Dularie Rampersad, as a teenager in Trinidad. They wrote letters to each other for many years before running away together to build their life as one. After having their three children, Sharon, Karen, and Shane, they immigrated to America building their careers, and growing their family with six beautiful grandchildren. Nazim and Dularie shared forty-eight years of marriage that defined love, struggle, resilience, and laughter.
When he wasn’t with his family, Nazim was cracking jokes with students at Hawthorne Cedar Knolls, and later with doctors, nurses, and patient visitors at Hudson Valley Hospital, serving up warm meals, delicious soups, and authentic sarcasm as the chef.
Although Nazim retired from Hudson Valley Hospital in 2016, you could find him in the kitchen cooking up fresh fried bake for his family or meticulously wrapping warm meals to drop off to his children; he even continued to work as a crossing guard for his granddaughter’s school sharing laughs and stories with her classmates. In the mornings you could find him tending to his garden and in the evenings watching the Yankees or the Discovery Channel, enjoying vanilla ice cream (with or without caramel) and Entenmann’s Louisiana Crunch Cake.
He loved with laughter and saw people as who they are, never passed judgment (unless you did him dirty), and most importantly he treated people with respect. Nazim proudly respected his profession, his colleagues, and his family.
Our adored husband, father, and papa Nazim Baksh passed away on September 7, 2020. Over the last 18 months, Nazim fought Triple-Hit Lymphoma and will be remembered for his perseverance and his greatest joys in life: supporting, nourishing, feeding, and bringing joy to his wife, children, and grandchildren.
