Mrs. Marian Joanne Van Keuren (née Everett), 82, of Allentown, passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at her residence in Croton, NY. She was the daughter of the late LeRoy and Margaret (Horne) Everett, born and raised in Hellertown, PA. She graduated from Hellertown HS where she and three friends formed a barbershop quartet called The Mellodettes. They traveled and performed from Atlantic City to NYC, appearing on the Ted Mack Amateur hour.
She was predeceased by her husband, Charles W. Van Keuren, Jr. in 2010.
She was a vibrant, active woman who raised 2 children, served as the Director of Youth Music at Hope United Church of Christ for over 30 years (whose members lovingly referred to her as “Mrs. V.”), was an active member and president of the Allentown Women’s Club, the Order of the Eastern Star, and President of the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the Deborah Hospital Foundation. A talented musician, she wrote and recorded numerous songs, compositions, and plays; performed for residents at local retirement homes, and lectured about the history of patriotic music and the music of Irving Berlin.
Survived by daughter and son-in-law Carol Van Keuren and George Zegarsky of Ossining, NY, and son Chuck Van Keuren, Pittsburgh, PA. A memorial service will be scheduled at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, The Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
