John J. Giglio, a lifelong member of the Croton-on-Hudson community, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2024. He was 96 years old. John was a devout husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He will be remembered for his unyielding dedication to his wife of 74 years, Louise, and his endless willingness to serve his family, friends and community. John was born on July 24, 1927 in Buchanan, NY to the late Louis A. Giglio, Sr. and Augusta Greenburg. He grew up on Riverside Avenue., and was the second oldest of six siblings. He attended Croton Harmon High School where he was a standout athlete, earning varsity letters in football, basketball, and baseball. John then served in the United States Army from 1946-47as a member of the Infantry. After the Army he began working at the NY Central Railroad Harmon Yards. John married his highschool sweetheart Louise Farano on September 18, 1949. John attended night school to become an Associate Engineer. He went to work for Wahlpart Associates in New York City as an Electrical Engineer, where he spent the majority of his working career. John was an active member of the Croton community. He joined the Croton Fire Department Washington Engine at the age of 16, where he remained a member for 80 years. He was a board member of the Croton Recreation Dept. John was also one of the founding members and officers of Croton Harmon Boosters Club. After retirement, John became very active with the Croton Seniors Club and the Croton Historical Society, where he served as an officer in each of those organizations. He was a member of the American Legion and he remained very active with the Croton Fire Dept Washington Engine.
He is survived by his sons Robert (Caron), Thomas (Donna), his grandchildren John (Priyanka), Nicole and Michelle (Matt), his great grandchild Liliana, caring siblings Madaline Myers, and Vicki Sasso, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Louise on January 17, 2024, his grandchild Jenna Giglio, and by brothers Louis Jr, Thomas and Vincent Giglio.
Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 8th from 4-8pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. A funeral service is scheduled for Saturday, March 9th at 10am at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Bethel Cemetery, Old Post Road South, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520.
