She was born January 25, 1944 in Charleston, the daughter of Osdell and Florence Comer Slater. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Bob, grandson, Ryan Knight, brothers, Nathan, Osdell, Joe, Teddy, Harold, and James Slater, sisters, Beulah Clendenin, Marie Elswick, and Betty Estep.
She is survived by her sister, Linda Ennis (John), her children, Dawn Whittington, and Kenneth Tyler, grandchildren, Bethany Sorgman, (Mike), Dustin Whittington, Gabi Hernandez, and Kenny Tyler, II (Jodi), great grandkids, Caden, Neaveh, and Tristan.
Celebration of Virgie’s life will be 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 6, 2024 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Celebrant HR Whittington presiding. Burial will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 1 until time of service at the funeral home.
