He was born on June 22, 1965, in Charleston the son of Mildred Ong and the late Donald C. Ong. In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his brother David L. Ong.
He was a graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School (Class of ’83) and the University of Charleston (Class of ’88, a TKE alum). He was a devoted husband, father, son, and brother—a kind soul who was loved by many, many people. He was a 28-year employee of the WV Office of Laboratory Services, where he began his career as a Microbiologist and eventually became the Associate Director of Labs and the Director of Environmental Programs. His many passions included photography, weight-lifting, playing drums in the Charleston Church of God praise band, animals (especially his two dogs Buddy and Jax), and his favorite band of all time—Kiss.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; step-children, Sarah and Matthew; sister, Donna O’Field, and a host of other relatives and close friends.
Celebration of Tom’s life will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Wise officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Gathering of family and friends will be Monday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
