Sandra Jean “Sandy” Gray, born May 8, 1949 originally from Sissonville, was currently living in Hurricane. She was a great Kanawha County School teacher for over 35 years and started out her career in Wallace Heights Elementary approximately for 12 years. She then moved to John Adams Jr. High teaching 7-8 grade English for the rest of her career. She loved and had a passion for teaching helping any child she could with learning they were not getting from home. She loved old things like old cars and anything that had nostalgia. She loved going on long drives in the country and seeing old towns and unique areas. Sandra went to be with the Lord and her husband on December 31, 2022, New Year’s Eve after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Gary, mother and father, Everett Vance and Virginia Jean McCracken, brother, Edward Vance McCracken.
She is survived by her son, Chad Gray and his wife Amber, her long time caring boyfriend Allen Settle, of North Charleston, helpful and loving Joseph Gillispie, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Mom, you will be loved and always remembered in history by us. Your students and this state will always have a record of you giving the best learning and loving to students that they had.
Celebration of Sandy’s life will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastor Robert Lockhart officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 11 until time of service at the funeral home.
