Mike H. Lester, 69, of Cross Lanes passed away at his home on May 2, 2016 surrounded by his loving family members that were his end-of-life caregivers. He fought a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 49 years, Judy Lester. He was also preceded in death by his mother and father, Zelma M. and Edward H. Lester, and his younger brother, Steven Lester. He is survived by his devoted son, Michael “Scott” Lester (Carrie Paxton), of Cross Lanes, his granddaughter, Kristin Looper (Jesse), two great grandsons, Kaleb and Jesse Paul of Cross Lanes, Wanda Conway, mother-in-law/second mother, sisters, Robin Gray (Danny) of Tornado, West Virginia, Dolores Barnette, of Greenville, South Carolina, brothers, Ronnie Lester (Ann) all of Tornado, West Virginia and Tommy Lester (Diana) of Elkhart, Indiana. Mike was born in Ward, West Virginia and was a 1964 graduate of Dunbar High School. He proudly served as a United States national guardsman and was a longtime employee of National Cash Register before becoming self-employed at Fletcher Data Systems. He also developed software that is still being utilized by government agencies well before most people knew that computer language existed. Mike was a passionate and caring man with many interests. He was an avid golfer, WVU sports fan, and he traveled extensively with his family to participate in dog show competitions. He particularly enjoyed watching his great grandson, Kaleb, play football and basketball, even in the late stages of his illness. In addition to being loving family members, his son, Scott and his girlfriend Carrie, sister, Robin Gray, and Wanda (Wendy) Conway provided exceptional end-of-life care for more than five months. Funeral Service will be Friday, May 6th, 2016 at 2:00pm with visitation from noon until service time. Officiating the service will be Rev. JF Lacaria and Mike’s first cousin Rick Workman.
