Mary was born on September 15, 1941, the daughter of Enoch and Beaulah Adkins of Laurel Hill District, WV. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by the love her life, Lewis G. Burns, her dear brothers, Carl and Robert Adkins, her sister-in-law, Catherine "Snap" Richardson; and her brothers in-law, Charles Burns, Michael Johnston, and Quincy Milem.
She was the loving mother of Roberta Smith (Robyn), from Tornado, WV, and Jeana Trout (Chris) from Poca, WV. Proud grandmother of Corey, Taylor, and Cameron Smith. Great grandmother of Rowyn Mae and Layne Grace Smith. Dearest sister to Loretta Jean Willis (Arthur), sisters-in-law, Carolyn and Judy Adkins, Lucille Johnson, Teresa Burns, Delores Simmons (Roger), Deborah Milem, Becky Cox (Jeff), brothers-in-law Richard and Danny Burns (Pat). Aunt to many nieces and nephews and a friend to many.
Anyone who knew Mary knew she was courageous, strong, and feisty. She stood firmly in her beliefs. She was a homemaker who supported her children. She had an entrepreneurial spirit running Burns Cycle Sales during the day. She loved the outdoors and was always gardening, camping, boating, riding ATVs, hunting, hiking and riding the ocean waves when the opportunity arose. Later in life, she and Lewis lived in Sebring, FL part-time.
A celebration of Mary’s life with food, pictures, and music will be held at noon Saturday, April 6, 2024, at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd, Cross Lanes, WV 25313.
The family would like to thank Latasha Goff, Marsha Burdette, Kim Miller and all the staff at Magnolia Assisted Living in Teays Valley and Hospice of Kanawha Valley. They all were huge supporters of Mary at the end of her life.
