He was born November 18, 1930, the son of the late Joe and Bertha Townson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Reba, and one sister, Peggy Reedy.
He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Doug) Humphrey; his son, Joseph Jr (Lynn) Townson; one sister, Nancy Keys; four grandchildren, Terry, RJ Humphrey, Joey Lynn and Zachary Townson; four great-grandchildren, Joseph, Hunter, Hailey Humphrey, Mikala Higginbotham; and his favorite and constant companion, his dog Dixie, who never left his side.
He worked as a foreman at the Gravely tractor plant in Dunbar until 1968 when he relocated to Clemmons, NC. In 1982, he opened his own Gravely dealership which he ran until 1999. He moved back to West Virginia to retire and spent his time here (of course) working on Gravelys. He was an avid Bingo player and loved the game.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 31, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home. Friends may call from 1:00 PM until time of service at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens.
