Joseph Michael “Runyon” Bias, 33, of Whitman, WV departed this life to be with the Lord on December 16, 2023 from heart complications. Joe was born December 17, 1989 in Williamson, WV. He was the son of Lisa Rose Bias and the late Tom Tom Bias of Whitman, WV.
During his life, Joe faced many struggles and personal battles, but his life was changed two years ago when he accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He became a member of the Verdunville Church of God, where he was active in street ministry, aided with the dream center, and assisted with all church functions and activities. Joe was unbelievably thoughtful and kind. He was a handy man that could perform any task and was a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He also never failed to make everyone around him feel safe and protected.
Joe devoted his life to his family. He was a hands-on father to his children, Joe Joe and Alyssa, who received his full support and attention. Joe loved cooking steaks for his momma, worshipping at the alter and traveling alongside her. He was always there to help his brother, Jacob (Kristin, Brynlee), with any project. “Uncle Joe” shared a love for cooking with his sister Jessica (Travis Turner), creating cherished memories over shared meals nearly daily. He so loved her children (Jase, Jaynee, and his namesake James Michael). Joe was so proud of his baby sister, Tomi Jane (Adam Hobbs), and loved to aggravate her. He had just started a new relationship with his step-father Kevin (Aidan) Blankenship. Joe also shared a special bond with his Mamaw, Patty, and his late Papaw, Dewey.
When taking a break from helping everyone, Joe loved to spend his free time being outdoors— hunting, fishing, riding, listening to music and enjoying time on the lake in Tennessee.
Joe also enjoyed attending family and friends’ sporting events. Being a former exceptional athlete himself, baseball being what he was known for, Joe was there to share his knowledge to the youth of the county, often jumping in to help his siblings and friends with coaching duties. His adventurous spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
Joe was extremely loved and will be missed by all of his extended family: his special Aunt Bert (Richard) Watts, cousins Justin (Summer, Jake, Millie) Johnson, Pat (Georgetta, Riley) Kenney, Katie (Luvante, Brock, Brody) Kenney, Tiffany (Scotty, Gabby, Noella) Mallette, great aunt Becky (Kirby) Rhodes, great aunt Claudia Elkins, his Papaw Tom Bias Jr. and the late grandmother Veda, Kyle (Angela, Haley, Haiden), the late Angie (Cory, Adam, Sarah, Katie), the late Ben (Kristy, Coby), his Papaw Bob (Sandy) of Ohio, and his Lukacs family, David (Hollie, Adam, and Ryan), and a host of so many other family and friends.
Pallbearers consist of Richard Watts, Travis Turner, Adam Hobbs, Pat Kenney, Justin Johnson, Craig Marcum, Derrick Perrin, and Cody Nelson
Honorary pallbearers include Joe Joe Bias, Riley Kenney, Luvante Kenney, Jase Turner, Corey Mathis, Josh Lukacs, and Gino Pansera
Ecclesiastics 3:1-2 “To everything there is season, and a time for every purpose under heaven: a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted.”
Celebration of Joseph’s life will be 12:00 P.M. Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Verdunville Church of God with Pastors Timmy Mullins and Michael Hartwell officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Godby.
