She was born October 25, 1931 in Dunbar the daughter of James Virgil and Letha Bailey Hager. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Samuel Edward Smith,
infant daughter Sandra Elaine Smith; brother James Bernard Hager; sisters Lois Hager Darnell and Phyllis Hager Winnell..
Janet was a 1949 graduate of St. Albans High School. She attended Highlawn Baptist Church since 1979 where she was a member of the Etta Samples Circle. She volunteered both at church and the community, working with children, shut-ins and delivering meals on wheels. Janet was a member of the St. Albans Women’s Club and was a World traveler with the Jolly Travelers

Surviving family are daughters Esther Smith McQuain (Dennis) and Ramona Smith of St. Albans; grandchildren Amber Danielle Pitt (Phil Hammonds) of KY, Corey Miller (Jesse) of Pittsburgh, PA, Samantha Miller, St. Albans, Angi Stephenson Kerns (Chris) of Charleston; Joe Stephenson (Lilianny) of SC and Jacob Stephenson of WI; great grandchildren Christopher Pitt, Alex Hammonds, Westley and Zoe Gardner, Nathan and Kira Whitlock, Ariana, Heaven and Harper Stephenson of SC.
Celebration of Janet’s life will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home with Chaplain Pete Thompson and Pastor Jason Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Montgomery Memorial Park, London.
Gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 6 to 8 at the funeral home.
