She was born on October 28, 1931. Daughter of the late Green and Daisy Vance. She was preceded in death by her twelve siblings, as well as, her beloved husband of 68 years, Calvin E. Harrison, daughter Kathy Sue Harrison and granddaughter Joni Irene Haynes.
Freda is survived by her son Calvin E. Harrison, Jr. (Lynn), daughters Gay Vaden (David), Tonie Vance, Lisa Ratliff (Lynn); 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, and lots of nephews and nieces that thought of her as their second mom.
She was loved by all that knew her. Her love for her family was a testament of her faith.
She was always ready for a game of rummy and usually won. We have been blessed with many, many years of good times together with her.
'Mama' as we called her, was always cooking and made all the traditional holiday meals. She made comfort foods like biscuits and gravy, cream of turkey and potato salad and coleslaw. She passed on her cooking skills to many of her children and grandchildren and we continue to try and replicate her flavors.
She was an avid knitter and crocheter and made many blankets for her family. She enjoyed camping, hiking and making campfires. She spent a lot of her life swimming in Summersville Lake and always called it miracle water that would heal your ailments. She was a true depiction of an Appalachian woman who survived through hard times, being poor, farm life and being a young mother who went to work in a factory when her children were grown.
She made the best of what she had and never complained when life wasn't perfect. She and Calvin would help anyone in need and always made everyone feel welcomed in their home. Her heart was big and full and she loved us all, and we will always love her.
