She was born September 9, 1924, in Glen Hays, the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Della Spence Mills. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brothers, Archie and Virgil Mills, and sisters, Flossie Maynard and Paulene Damron.
Betty was a proud graduate of Kermit High School where she was a cheerleader. She met Burgess Dials from Beauty, Ky., a Warfield High School basketball player whom she married and celebrated their 70th Anniversary before his passing on Thanksgiving Day in 2013. Betty moved with her husband to Detroit, Mich., where she worked in a defense plant as a riverter (one of the original Rosie the Riverter). Many moves with her family followed. They lived in Williamson, Beauty, Ky., Huntington, and finally settling in St. Albans where she finished raising her boys.
Betty worked hard and graduated from the Portsmouth Business College while being a wife and mother. She worked many years for the Rose City Cafeteria and the Kanawha County Board of Education where she retired after turning 80 years old. Betty loved to cook, garden and attend church. She was a devout Christian and most recently attended Lower Falls Baptist Church where she felt welcomed and loved. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed by all. She had that "Old Time Religion" she cared for all. She spent many days with her best friend Janet Hicks and enjoyed life until her health faded in the last month. She was an avid sports fan and Stephen Curry was her favorite player.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Dwight Dials and wife Virginia, Jerry Dials, six grandchildren, Melissa Dials, Jason Dials, Heather Anderson and husband Shawn, all of Cool Ridge, Joshua Dials, of Pikeville, Ky., Jeri Sue Thomas, Meagan Dials, of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., seven great grandchildren, Lindsey, Justin, and Josh Myers, Caleb and Cyleigh Dials, Anthony and Ayzia Ayers, nieces, Gaye Ballard, Ann Pack, and nephew K.O.
