Born August 29, 1936 in Batesville, Arkansas to Noah and Fairy Edith (Bowen) Knisley, she married Bill Short on April 9, 1955 in Corinth, Mississippi.
Surviving are her husband of 67 years; two daughters, Terry (Owen) Lawson and Julie Troup, both of Creve Coeur; two sons, Ronald (Madelyn) Short of Creve Coeur and Phillip (Mary Jo) Short of Green Bay, Wisconsin; seven grandchildren, Laura, Rachel, Kimberly, Jennifer, Kristin, Cassidy and Erin and seven great-grandchildren, Abigail, Adam, Elijah, Kolten, JJ, Ruthie Kay and Fulton.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A homemaker, Joan had also worked for 20-plus years at Tazewell County Head Start as a teacher and education coordinator before retiring in 1995.
Joan enjoyed animals, gardening, traveling, hiking and bicycling. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family.
She attended Bloomington Church of God.
Her graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023 at Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin. Pastor John Plunkett will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Alzheimer’s Association, Central Illinois Chapter, 614 West Glen Avenue, Peoria, Illinois 61614.
