Born May 22, 1948 in Greensburg, Kentucky to Goble and Eva Lillian (Wright) Franklin, he married Judith A. “Judy” Svob on February 27, 1982 in Robein. She survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Pat (Heather) Franklin of Streator, Joe (Melissa) Franklin of Tremont and Greg (Megan) Franklin of Pekin; one daughter, Sonja (Dennis) Ahrens of Peoria; five grandchildren, Kindred Ahrens, Cheyenne Franklin, Gavin Franklin, Ronnie Wheeler and Hadley Franklin; one great-grandson, Blake Franklin; two sisters, Brenda (Daryl) Taylor of Greensburg, Kentucky and Linda Wilson of East Peoria and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant grandson, C.J. Franklin and a brother-in-law, Wayne Wilson.
Carlie was a longtime mechanic and last owned and operated Franklin Auto Service. He also had previously worked for Ray Dennison Chevrolet and S & K Chevrolet.
His passion was racing himself and taking his kids drag racing. He also was a fan of NASCAR and stock car racing. His favorite car was a 1955 blue Chevy Chevelle, which he called Old Blue. Carlie also liked going to antique car shows.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
His celebration of life memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 1, 2023 at Creve Coeur Christian Church. Pastor Bill Holley and Brody Woodard will officiate. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Private inurnment will be in Oak Grove Evangelical Bible Church Cemetery in East Peoria.
