Ted was born December 13, 1935 to Lillian and Varion Wheeler in Mt. Etna, IN. He spent his youth living in Indiana and Pennsylvania, eventually settling in Clarion County, PA. He left school during the ninth grade to work as an equipment operator in the coal industry. Ted met and fell in love with Sylvia Thompson and they were married June 6, 1953. They quickly started a family of five children together. Ted continued to work in the coal industry and became a competent and knowledgeable supervisor. In 1974 he was asked to move his family west to start a new mining operation in Axial Basin, CO. The surrounding community was not always welcoming to the new venture and Ted had to be vigilant in standing his ground. The mine grew and became a major employer for both Craig and Meeker. Ted enjoyed skiing, hunting and many other out door activities that the west had to offer. He was a skilled wood worker, creating many beautiful pieces. Ted was a welder, machinist, electrician, and inventor. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and engaging grandpa.
Ted was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years Sylvia; his parents Lillian and Varion; and his siblings Roger, Joyce, Marilyn, Ronnie and Doris.
He is survived by his children Ted (Barb), Terry (Carol), Tim (Nadine), Tina (Brion), and Todd (Terrianne); his grandchildren Jason (Katie), Angela (Dean), Jeannie (Trinity), Kristen (Lane), Matt, Cassidy, and Ashleigh; along with 9 great grandchildren.
