Karen Lee Prince

Craig resident, Karen Lee Prince, died suddenly on Friday, April 24, 2020, at the Doak Walker House at Casey’s Pond in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. She was 61. A celebration of Karen’s life will be held at a later date. Karen Lee (Young) Prince was born to Charles and Phyllis Joann (Vogt) Young on October 5, 1958 in Lakewood, Colorado. She spent her childhood and attended schools in Lakewood. Following graduation, Karen moved to the western slope with her mom and step-dad, Donald Epperly. While in college studying to be a cosmetologist, she took a trip to Leadville, Colorado with friends. During this trip she met David Prince. The couple started dating and on Valentine’s Day 1985, Karen and Dave were married in Leadville. To this union two children were born. Karen enjoyed working as a cosmetologist in several areas including Craig, Rifle, Grand Junction and Leadville. When she was younger, Karen enjoyed gardening and she loved riding horses. Karen was a women of God and She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Above all, Karen was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a dear friend to many people. She made sure to stay in touch with them daily. Karen will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege to love and know her. Karen is survived by her husband of 35 years, Dave Prince of Craig; one son, Matthew Prince of Craig; one daughter Cheryl Prince (Daniel Hoffman) of Golden, CO; and one brother, Kenny Young of Loma, CO. Karen is further survived by two wonderful grandchildren: Harold David Hoffman and Shailyn Nova Prince; two nephews, Travis and Coulter Young; and two nieces, Angie and Chrystal Young. Karen was preceded in death by her brother, Kurt Eslinger; her mother and step-father, Phyllis and Donald Epperly; and her father, Charles Young.
