Georgia C McWhorter was a loving wife, mother and a great friend to many. She was born on May 12th 1945 in Oak Creek, CO to R.E. (Dick) Jones Jr. and Elsa (Forster) Jones. She came into the house as the little sister of Sharon. She passed away Sunday January 20th, 2019 at Yampa Valley Medical Center in Steamboat, CO. She met Tom in grade school ... they married June 2nd 1963. She loved the ranch life, loved to be outside, her horses and her award winning cow Ginger along with the many ranch dogs and other animals. She was always interested in Veterinary school but chose nursing instead. Georgia received her Associates Degree (RN) in nursing at Mesa College, Grand Junction CO in 1977. Her career served her well as she was able to work wherever travel and the next move took her. She especially enjoyed Labor and Delivery and worked mostly within that specialty throughout her nursing career and no doubt helped a few new L&D docs learn a lot. She and Tom and the girls had many addresses and were fortunate to see the world! Georgia loves to travel and was a great student of new or different cultures. She especially loved visiting Switzerland and Germany. Jo and Tom lived longest in each Anchorage, AK and Scottsdale AZ ... they moved back to Colorado and resided in Loveland for a time before moving home to Yampa after 2005. Her daughters recall her frustration with the digital age and in particular trying to figure out her smart phone! Although once she found Google, she was a fan! She loved her little shelties, Sport, Hali and now Shadow. He misses his mom and packs around her shoes still. The past four years were a trial for Jo physically, but she pushed through most all of the challenges presented by this life with humor, grit and her characteristic toughness. (And a little bit of swearing)! Mom is pain free now. Georgia was preceded in death by her parents Dick and Elsa Jones, sister Anita Sharon (Jones) Wooldridge, niece Pamela Wooldridge Barnhart, sister-in-law Eileen Stetson, nephew Frank “Pud” Stetson and her mother and father in law Lesle and Sue McWhorter. She is survived by her husband Thomas McWhorter, daughters Cheri McWhorter of Greeley, and Donna McWhorter and husband Matt Housley of Fort Collins, her granddaughters Jordan Lesle Colaizzi of Fort Collins and Jaime Colaizzi Tedford and Ben Tedford of Windsor, CO. Please join her family and friends for a Celebration of life and remembrance, (along with some good stories!) on Sunday January 27th 2019 at the Ladies Aid Hall, 83 1st St., Yampa, CO at 1:00PM. There will be no graveside ceremony… Her wishes were to have her ashes spread over the ranch where she grew up. This will take place at a later date with her family.
