Don was a lifetime resident of Maybell, CO. His quick smile and contagious one of a kind laugh brought immeasurable joy to everyone around him. Don’s love for the town and residents kept his feet firmly rooted in the Yampa Valley. Whether it be mining, irrigating, Keeping the Maybell Irrigation Ditch in operation, or constructing his multiple fishing ponds- Don was a legend operating heavy equipment. His passion for fishing led him to his favorite camping cabins in Browns Park, Wilderness Ranch and Overton NV. Don loved spending his winter months chasing striped bass in Lake Mead and keeping the lights on in Mesquite. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all his friends and family.
Don is survived by his sons Douglas “Allan” Steele (Vickie) Craig, CO and Bruce Steele (Angela) Gillette, WY. Grandchildren Jory Steele, Jake Steele, Bryanne Cossey, Dylan Steele, Emily Steele, Gavin Steele and Irelyn Steele. Great grandchildren Jasper Steele, Harper Steele, Cash Steele and Brooklyn Mitchell. His brothers Robert Steele (Sondra) Steamboat Springs, CO and Darryl Steele (Sharon) Maybell, CO as well as numerous extended family members. Don was preceded in death by his father Samuel James Steele and Mother Violet Grace (Meineke) Steele.
A Memorial Service will be in held in Craig Colorado at the Journey Church February 8, 2020 at 11:00 AM, reception at the church to follow. Honorary Pall Bearers are all of Don’s family and friends. There will also be a Celebration of Life held at the Maybell Park June 13, 2020.
