Longtime Craig resident, Debra Ann Wagner McElroy, joined her Heavenly Father on Monday, Dec. 23, 2019, at Memorial Regional Health in Craig. She was 67. A viewing for friends and family will be held from 4-6 p.m. Thurs., Dec 26, at Grant Mortuary. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 2:00pm Fri., Dec 27 at The Journey at First Baptist. Interment will follow at Craig Cemetery where she will be buried next to her beloved daughter, Jen. Debra Ann Wagner was born the daughter of Clell Reynolds and Juanita Caroline “Charlene” (Neal) Wagner on February 20, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa. She spent a few years in Iowa before moving with her family to Axial, Colorado, where she resided until she met and married the love of her life, Ronnie McElroy on August 14, 1970. They lived in Axial before moving to Meeker shortly after they were married. They later moved to Craig where they would spend the rest of their lives. On Ronnie’s 20th birthday, they welcomed their first born, Jennifer Lee McElroy in Meeker. Their daughter brought them so much joy, that after spending just a few months with their baby girl, they wanted to add to their family. In April of 1973, they welcomed their second daughter, Laura Ann McElroy. When she was younger, Debra found work at the Moffat County School District as a custodian. There she made many friends and enjoyed working with her sister-in-law Sandy and sometimes with Ronnie. She loved and adored children so much that she helped raise her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews whom she treated as if they were her own. She was our family’s jokester and loved to tease her husband and make everyone laugh. When she wasn’t raising children, you could find her yard selling, going to thrift stores and traveling to Quartzsite, Arizona. She loved playing her guitar, journal drawing with her niece Megan, crocheting and crafting of all kinds. Above all, she was a devoted wife to Ronnie and loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt, grandmother and great grandmother. She will be deeply missed by her family who love her dearly. We take comfort in knowing that she is spending her first Christmas with Jesus, her daughter Jen, and our Grandpa Popo and Grandma Wagner. She is survived by her husband of almost 50 years, Ronnie McElroy; daughter, Laura Berg and her fiancé Brett Hallmark; Brother, John (Sarah) Wagner; and Sister, Anita (Jesse) Brazelton. She is further survived by four grandchildren: Kayla, Tommy, Taya and Hailey; three great grandchildren: Jaden, Xavier and Brynlee; and numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to The Journey at First Baptist, who did so much for Ronnie and Debra over the years.
