Daniel started his life in an orphanage. They called him Thomas. When he was gifted to his parents, Francis “Bruce” and Sarah Baker they renamed him Daniel Sundar Baker. A strong biblical name they were very proud of, with Sundar meaning “beautiful” to account for his Indian heritage, as he would always say, “dot, not feather”.
Daniel is preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and his father, Bruce Baker. He is survived by his wife, Jessica; four children, Olivia Knez, Kay Dean Baker, Gideon Baker, and Alyssa Baker; mother, Sarah Baker; and siblings, Wil (Laura) Vigil, Edith (Gene) Doughty, Lorraine (Ron) Vigil -Haas, Annalisa (Don) Fritzler, Angela (Jason) Sarazen, and Fidelis Vigil
Daniel spent most of his life in Craig or in Greeley, Colorado. In his early years he was homeschooled and graduated from Abeka in Pensacola, Florida. However, he spent much time in the Moffat County school district in extra-curricular activities, awarding him many friends. He went on to graduate from Aims Community College in Greeley, Colorado with an Associates degree.
Daniel, passionately called “Baker” by many, spent his time in relationships with many people in all capacities. He wore many hats, and it is true that he literally had many hats. His involvement in the community stretched to the following: Young Life, youth group, involvement with many churches in various capacities, the board for Moffat County Christian Academy, the high school football “chain crew”, youth sports coach for soccer, baseball and basketball, manager at Cook Chevrolet (despite loving Fords), devoted attendee to support the events of others, DJ, and wedding officiant to close family. He loved his annual football trip to watch the Chiefs vs. the Broncos. Most recently he looked forward to an annual father/son camping trip.
He always had an extra spot to welcome anyone to a meal, or to be a part in whatever he was doing. He knew no stranger and could talk to a wall and we all loved him for it! In his memory tell all the dad jokes and make it weird.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at The Moffat County High School Auditorium. Memorial donations may be made to The Baker Family in care of Grant Mortuary. Services will be streamed via Moffat County Proud.
