Ernest John “Jack” Lorch, Jr., M.D., born on August 7, 1934, passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023 at the age of 88. He was the only child of the late Ernest John Lorch, Sr. and May Ayo Lorch. A true family man, he was steadfast in his love for Mary Carol Kuchler Lorch, his wife of 62 years. Beloved father of Elizabeth Lorch Esquerre (Kevin), Kathleen Lorch Pellissier (Clay) and the late Carol Lorch Piwko. Proud grandfather of Allyson Pellissier, Michael Pellissier (Jordan), Bryce Esquerre, Miles Esquerre, Joey Piwko and Jack Piwko.
Jack began his career in pediatrics as a Captain in the US Air Force stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, MS before returning to New Orleans, LA to enter private practice. After 21 years, he retired from pediatrics to work for the State of Louisiana as a medical advisor to the Office of Group Benefits and then as Director of Public Health for East Baton Rouge Parish. He retired from that position in 1998.
He thrived in retirement exploring his many interests, including traveling, family vacations, thoroughbred horse racing, playing golf and watching sports (primarily the Texas Rangers, LSU and the New Orleans Saints). Above all he was a devout Catholic and an incredibly generous man, treating patients in need. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends and all of those whose lives he touched.
Special thanks to St. Tammany Parish Hospice for the excellent care and support provided in his final days.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at MOST HOLY TRINITY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 501 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:30 a.m. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony following services.
