Dorothy Wade Simmons, affectionately known as Dot, passed away on June 22, 2024, at the age of 95 in Covington, Louisiana. Born on July 30, 1928, in Jacksonville, Florida, she was the daughter of Omega Roberts Wade and Martin Tyler Wade.
Dot graduated from Andrew Jackson High School and later attended Florida State University; she went on to study voice in New York City. After raising three children, Dot became a successful realtor for many years in Jacksonville.
She is survived by her loving family, including her son, Bland Ballard Simmons, Jr. (Marilyn); daughter, Laura Simmons Goodrich; son-in-law, Paul D. Storfer (Sandi); granddaughters, Elisabeth Amanda Simmons (Abbas), Blair Elizabeth Goodrich, and Lindsey Goodrich Matherne (Paul); grandsons, David Ballard Simmons, Jon Roberts Storfer (Ashley), and Daniel F. G. Storfer; along with 10 great-grandchildren. Dot was preceded in death by her mother, Omega; father, Martin; sister, Joyce Wade Barnes (Fred); daughter, Kathleen Wade Storfer; and her ex-husband, Col. Bland Ballard Simmons (Ret.).
Services to honor Dot's life will be held on July 26, 2024, at Evergreen Garden Cloister Mausoleum and Chapel, located at 4535 Main Street, Jacksonville, Florida. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by the service at 10 AM.
