It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Dennis Wayne McKinley, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, sports and outdoors enthusiast. He left us on Friday, September 22, 2023, having just turned 74 three weeks ago. In his final moments, Dennis was surrounded by the loving care of his family while in Home Hospice Care in Bush, La.
Born in New Orleans on September 1, 1949, Dennis was the son of the late Merlin “Mac” J. and Gladys E. (Campos) McKinley. He is survived by his beloved wife of 39 years, Yvette (Bourgeois) McKinley; five children and eight grandchildren: Dennis, Jr. and children Whitney and Victoria; Dion and wife Christina, and children Jackson and Sydney; Tracy and wife Karol, and children Brooke, Nicole and Kade Michael; Shane and wife Sarah and their son Greyson; Sarah Jessica and dogs Annabelle and Charley.
Dennis is also survived by his sister Nicole and her husband Vincent Schiro, and his brother Merrick “Rick” and his wife Susan (Vincent) McKinley.
All who knew Dennis knew of his passions for fishing and hunting which started as a young boy with his grandfather, father and brother fishing at Shell Beach. Then as he grew older he discovered hunting which he reveled in sharing with his sons, daughter, and friends across the states of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. The memories of these outdoor adventures will forever hold a special place in the hearts of those who joined him on those journeys.
Eleven years ago Dennis fulfilled a lifelong dream when he and Yvette purchased 50 acres of wooded land, well stocked with deer and other wildlife, in Tylertown, Mississippi. He embraced the serene beauty of this area, finding solace and joy in the natural world. This land not only became one of his favorite hunting spots, but is where he and Yvette built their home. And now, where he will spend eternity in a small cemetery adjacent to their property. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of camaraderie, love for sports, and appreciation for the great outdoors will live on through his children and grandchildren.
