Kathleen M. McGowan was known as many things to many people. She was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew her best, Kathleen will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Kathleen was born on November 18, 1945 at Saint Francis Maternity Home in Glasgow, Scotland. She was the daughter of Francis (Frank) and Catherine McCullouch. Kathleen grew up in Bridgeston, then Toryglen, Glasgow.
Kathleen was raised with one sibling. She had a younger brother, Frank. Kathleen was usually involved in all sorts of activities with her sibling. She and her sibling experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
A typical teenager, Kathleen had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. She enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
On April 1, 1967 Kathleen exchanged wedding vows with Charles McGowan at Saint Brigid Catholic Church of Toryglen, Glasgow, Scotland. Empathic and loyal, Kathleen was committed to making her new family happy.
Kathleen worked hard to be a good mother to her children and she did her best to fulfill their needs. Kathleen was blessed with two children, two daughters, Karen and Elaine. Karen is married to David Ontiveros and Elaine is married to Jeff Tucker. Another blessing for Kathleen was the gift of five grandchildren, Stephen(14) and Matthew(11) Ontiveros and Anisley(9) and twins Ryan and Caitlin(8) Tucker.
Fortunately, Kathleen enjoyed what she did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Kathleen worked diligently and did her best to succeed in her career. Her primary occupation was Executive Assistant. She was employed for 24 years by Miller Brewing Company. Kathleen always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Kathleen enjoyed her leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. Her favorite pursuits were reading, traveling and grandchildren. She was content to enjoy her favorite pastimes alone but was also willing to share her interests with others.
Kathleen’s faith was important to her. She was a lifelong practicing Catholic.
Kathleen enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for her to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included Hawaii and Cruises.
Kathleen passed away on August 8, 2011 at San Dimas Community Hospital. She is survived by her husband Charles, daughters Karen and Elaine, sons-in-laws David and Jeff and grandchildren Stephen, Matthew, Ainsley, Ryan and Caitlin. Services were held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Kathleen was laid to rest in Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora, California.
Simply stated, Kathleen was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by her family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Kathleen leaves behind her a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life she touched will always remember Kathleen M. McGowan.
