It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stanley Mankiewicz, who left this world peacefully on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the age of 92.
Stanley was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, known for his warmth, generosity, and unwavering kindness.
Born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Stanley was the eldest child of Karol and Pearl Mankiewicz. He grew up in Winnipeg and graduated from Gordon Bell High School before beginning his studies at the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine, from which he graduated in 1956. He completed his internship at Colonel Belcher Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, and at the Chatham, New Brunswick military base. He later specialized in urology at the Royal Victoria Hospital, Montreal and fondly enjoyed his residency graduating in 1960.
In the spring of 1961, Stanley joined the Oshawa Clinic Group and held privileges at Oshawa General Hospital (now known as Lakeridge Health Oshawa), where he practiced as a urologist. His career as a urological surgeon spanned 45 years, during which he made a lasting impact on his colleagues and his community.
Stanley had a lifelong passion for airplanes, dreaming as a child of becoming an aeronautical engineer. He enjoyed building model airplanes, was an avid reader, and had a deep love of history and learning, which he delighted in sharing with family and friends. Those who knew him will always remember his inquisitive mind, vast knowledge, and genuine interest in getting to know his patients.
Stanley is survived by his loving and supportive wife of 57 years, Marilyn; his children, David (Rachel), Mark (Matthew), and Tim (Jamie); his grandchildren, Steven (Zoe), Christopher, Elle, and Jack; his brother, Victor (Margaret); his brother in-law Richard (Elaine); his nephew, Carl (Jen); and his nieces, Carolyn (Geoff) and Jessie (Carl). Predeceased by his parents Karol and Pearl and his in-laws Wendell and Phyllis. He will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Visitation will be held at Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Highway 2, Courtice, on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. A celebration of Stan’s life will be held at the same location on Sunday, December 8, 2024, at 1:30 p.m.
