Oct. 29, 1933 – Sept. 24, 2017
With profound sadness, the family of Bob Gunter, announce his sudden passing at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox on September 24, 2017, which is where he was born on October 29, 1933. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Beverley; 6 daughters – Linda (Oskar), Kathy (Glen), Barb (Sid), Roberta (Chris), Bonnie (Kevin), and Nancy (Mitch); 2 sons – Harry (Martina) and Dennis (Janice); 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; brother John (Louise), sisters Charlene and Lucile (Louis); nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives in England and Australia and many friends. Predeceased by his parents, Harry and Bertha Gunter and brother-in-law Meinhard.
Bob was a hard-working man who lived and breathed farming all his life on Ledingham Road in Grantham, a mile from Tsolum School. He worked on his father’s farm for many years and then continued on his own farm next door – raising the famous Gunter’s turkeys, producing his highly sought-after hay, starting up the meat business which is now owned by his sons and known as Gunter Bros. Meat Co., more recently looking after the animals in his feed lot which were treated with care and compassion. He took a lot of pride in doing things “right”. He was a fountain of knowledge when it came to farming and was happy to share that with anyone who was interested.
He was very proud of his large family and though he didn’t often express it in words, he loved us all and we knew it. He will be greatly missed by all – he was taken far too soon.
There will be a Celebration of Bob’s Life on Saturday, October 7 at 2:30 at Upper Native Sons Hall in Courtenay. Bring along your stories or send them to [email protected] if you are more comfortable having someone else read it for you.
Arrangements under the direction of Piercy's-Mt. Washington Funeral Home, Courtenay, BC.
