Jerry Douglas Rose Jr.

It is with great sadness and sorrow the family of Jerry Douglas Rose, Jr. announces his passing on June 29, 2021 as a result of the extreme heat wave. Doug was born in Whitehorse on August 8, 1969, but spent the majority of his life in B.C. Comox Valley has been his home for many years.

Doug was a musician, song-writer and poet. He enjoyed all different types of music, one of his favourite artists was Elvis Presley and his favorite tune was Eruption by Van Halen. He loved playing guitar, drums and flute, but especially the guitar. He loved writing poems, songs and composing his music. Doug had a love for reading and he just didn’t read light material; he enjoyed complex subjects, he was always reading and researching stuff. In his earlier years, he was a top salesperson in retail sales, he sold computers and cars.

He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Doug was congenial and he definitely had the ‘gift of the gab’, he could talk to anybody. He was a kind-hearted person with an easy-going manner and was comfortable in any setting. When he got angry about something, he was quick to forgive or say “I’m sorry” to make things right. He enjoyed life and getting things done. Every day he would start out early and do all the things he had to do. He enjoyed life to the fullest and never felt sorry for himself. He was inventive and creative. He was always spending time in “the shop” working on a project, busy making things, fixing things and getting things humming and purring. He enjoyed a challenge to fix something or learn more about something. He certainly had a love for animals. He cared about animals and issues like the environment, climate change and a better world for people to live in. He loved watching the Sports Channel especially for wrestling and boxing. One of his favourite channels was Yukon Vet. He really loved living in the Comox Valley and enjoyed his bike riding throughout the Valley especially the ocean front, along Lazo Road and Goose Spit.

Most of all Doug was a charismatic, kind and compassionate person who enjoyed helping people. “My son had a good sense of humour, he was thoughtful, generous and good-hearted. He always looked for the positive in any situation; no matter how challenging it might be. He was optimistic and believed ‘when life gives you lemons, make lemon meringue pie’. Losing Douglas is heartbreaking for me and all his family in Comox, B.C, Yukon, Oregon, California and Montana. A morning outdoor Christian Blessing service and an evening By the Ocean Celebration of Life was held to honour my precious son Douglas on July 11, 2021. We loved him so much, now we release him to the loving arms of our Creator. He has gone home.”

Jerry Douglas Rose Jr. is greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his friends and family forever. He is survived by his parents Edna and Howie Leask, his sisters Diana Dawson, Barbara Rose and Angela Rose, his brothers Lionel and Wayne Rose, step-Mom Kate Rose, nieces and nephews, Aunts Hilda Tuck, Merrily Rose, Uncles Harold and Malcolm Dawson, Uncles Brud and Roby Rose and numerous cousins in the Yukon and U.S.A.

Predeceased by his father Jerry Rose, his nephew Jace, paternal grandparents Barbara Currie and Frank Rose, Uncle Roth Rose and maternal grandparents George and Rachael Dawson, Grandpa Archie, Aunts Barbara and Kathleen Jones, Uncles Arthur, Howard, Reginald, Gerald and Matthew Dawson and other family members. Thank you to family and friends who helped us during this difficult time.
