Ellen was born in Wolfville, Nova Scotia on August 20, 1949 where she went through school and business college prior to her stepping out into the world.
Ellen married Barrie Doubleday in May of 1974 and travelled from N.S. to many places throughout Canada expanding her banking career which spanned over 30+ years. in the Comox/ Courtenay area, she served at all three branches of the Credit Union and as shop steward for her local Comox Valley BCGEU for a time. She retired 12 years ago.
Ellen was predeceased by her father Lewis Henderson, mother Vivian Henderson (nee O'Brien), brothers William and Everett Henderson and sister Joan Smith all in Nova Scotia.
She is survived by husband Barrie Doubleday in Comox, son Kyle and wife Amanda Doubleday in Beamsville, Ontario, Cindy and Husband Kevin O'Neill in Comox, Granddaughters; Delaney Doubleday in Ontario, Isla and Miranda O'Neill in Comox and Grandson Ryan doubleday in Ontario. Two sisters Barb Seamone Kingston N.S and Beverly and Husband Bob Wolfe in Kingston N.S. plus many nephews, nieces and cousins.
She battled ovarian cancer for many years and was a lady with grace through it all. Ellen was also diagnosed with Alzheimers 2 years ago.
Ellen loved to sew and apply her hand at folk art painting and enjoyed the gardens of home and throughout Vancouver Island. But her main love was for family and grandchildren.
She was a kind and loving soul, friendly and soft spoken. Gentle with all forms of life. Many of us swept along in the experience of knowing ellen have become more accepting, understanding and kinder.
As per her wishes, we will not have a service. Her ashes will be interred at the Courtenay Civic Cemetery.
She will be missed by many and loved by all.
