1921-2011
It is with sadness the family of David T Hansen announces his passing due to an unfortunate accident. Dave (Papa) passed away in the ICU at St. Joseph's Hospital on May 4, 2011 at the age of 89, born in Edmonton, Alberta, August 17, 1921.
He goes to join his wife Bertie, son Thor, sister Dororthy, brothers Don and Conrad and grandson Wayne.
Dave married Bertie in 1942.
Left to miss him are: wife Joan Hansen, children, Louise Mossey (Ken), Rick Hansen (Kathy),Berniece Oviatt(Joe), Brenda Hutchinson (Nigel Lihou), and Sandy Brown (Dan). 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren (14th due in 2 weeks),1 great great grandchild, many in-laws and 'Callie' his puppy.
Papa served in WW II, returned and settled in Kenmay,Manitoba were he owned and operated a garage. In 1952 he joined the armed Services and was transferred to Clinton,Trenton, and North Bay, Ontario, Greenwood, Nova Scotia, Summerside, PEI, and finally transferred to the beautiful Comox Valley in 1966.
He and his family for the first time since joining the Services, lived off base. Papa loved his property and was known for his flowers and huge garden. In 1971 papa retired from the Armed Services and continued to work in construction.
Papa love to travel and he and Nana camped all across Canada and the US.
Papa was a member of the Legion and the Lions. He devoted hours and hours to various community associations in organizational positions but his main focus was for the ones who need his individual attention. He loved to work one on one.
In 1996 Bertie passed away after 54 years of marriage.
A few lonely years followed but he met and married Joan Cameron. They would have celebrated their 6th wedding anniversary on May 21st.
He loved to tinker with cars and wood.
Everyone who met him came away with their own memorable experience. We all have wonderful stories.
Services were held at Piercy's Funeral Home, May 7, 2011. Guests met after the service to share memories and refreshments.
The family would like to thank the staff at St.Joseph's Hospital, especially the nurses in the ICU. And our deepest appreciation to Dr. Karen Humphreys for her compassion in the care of Papa and his family.
Devotion to family was his life. See ya later Papa.
