With the steady support of her family, Alice bravely fought serious health issues with the typical matter-of-fact manner that benefitted so many people and organizations over her lifetime. After graduating from the UBC Faculty of Pharmacy in 1950, Alice and Ian raised six children, settling in the Comox Valley where she became well known in the community and worked in many of the local pharmacies as well as the hospitals in Comox, Cumberland and Campbell River. Her involvement with the United Church of Canada included a seat on the General Council and willing hands with the United Church Women's group and camps such as Moorecroft in days gone by. Always a strong advocate for education for women and human rights, Alice was involved with Soroptimist International supporting women and children in need, the Comox Valley Transition Society, the Canadian Federation of University Women, and the Council of Women. In May Alice was recognized by the Western Canada Region of Soroptimist International with the Frances E. Wagner "Woman of Achievement" award.
Alice is survived by her husband Ian, children Jim (Darlene), John (Kathy), Chris (Nancy), Sylvia (Sandy), Cindy (John) and Robin (Monika) as well as a resounding legacy of grand and great-grand children.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Comox United Church on Saturday July 21, 2018 at 2:00pm.
