Leonard Samuel Greenspon, 94 passed away peacefully in his Orange County, CA home Thursday, April 4, 2019 with his daughter, Judy and granddaughter, Katie by his side. His legacy of hard work, loyalty, and passion for people and animals will continue to live on for years to come.
A loyal husband for 64 years to his late wife, Elizabeth Ann Greenspon and loving Father to Joseph Charles Greenspon, Michael Sherman Greenspon, and Judith Ann Greenspon. He cherished his three beautiful grandchildren Katie Greenspon, Jack Greenspon, and Grace Greenspon.
Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Abe (Avram) Greenspon and mother Bessie (Basya), née Neuberger). His eldest brother, Sidney, passed away when Leonard was a boy. Also preceded in death by brother Charles Phillip, and his wives Sally Kostky and Mabel Eisenstein. Also preceded in death by sisters Helen Smulevitz (Hanna Minna) and her husband Joe, as well as his sister Ethel Lorraine known as Dolly (Etta Leah) and Husband Sam Sitzer.
Leonard served as Navy Sea-bee in the South Pacific during WWII and was the son of Russian immigrants. His career spanned over 50 years at Banner Supply Company on the south side of Chicago, 11 years at Target in Southern California, and 5 dedicated years at NPI Services in Costa Mesa, CA.
Leonard was a man of simple pleasures who enjoyed the luck of the lottery (playing his numbers, 1,5, 6), watching the Chicago White Sox, and sneaking endless amounts of food scraps under the table for his many canine friends he cared for throughout his life. Anyone who was blessed to have known Leonard experienced what a selfless, compassionate, and warm-hearted man he was.
