Frank Sumner Brockway, at 100 years old, passed on August 23, 2019, in Huntington Beach, CA, after a brief cancer illness. He was born August 13, 1919 in Scobey, Montana. He moved with his parents to Centralia, Washington and then to Lewiston, Idaho, where he grew up and graduated high school. At the age of 14, he started his lifelong hobby in amateur radio.
Frank Brockway, began his career as an automobile mechanic and quickly advanced to become a certified aviation mechanic. Working in both Lewiston, Idaho and Clarkston, Washington for Bert Zimmerly of Zimmerly Brothers Air Transport.
During WWII, Brockway joined the US Navy and was stationed in Seattle, Washington.
After the war, Frank Brockway, graduated from Pacific University, in Forest Grove, Oregon, with a doctorate degree in optometry. He chose California to live and work. Over the course of his career he worked in Weed, Anaheim, Fullerton, La Mirada, and Los Angeles. While in Los Angeles, he provided pro bono optometry services until his retirement at the age of 93, in 2013. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.
Dr. Brockway, is preceded in death by his parents, Harvey Vernon Joseph Brockway and Beatrice Evangeline Lemire Brockway, his first wife; Annabelle Wallace Brockway Zimmerman, second son; Frank Brockway, sister; Pearl Sutherland, and brother; Leo Harvey Brockway.
Dr. Brockway, is survived by his son; Merle Charles Zimmerman, second wife; Shirley Marx Brockway, daughters; Ellen (Ken) Allen, Ann (Jeff) Agent, and Joan (Gregg) Hearns. Fourteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and his wife Yvonne Brockway.
