Bill was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma, the only child of parents, Oliver Green Marler and Matilda (“Tillie”) Docherty Marler. He attended school in Henryetta from kindergarten through high school graduation, then attended Oklahoma State University for a short time before enlisting in the Navy in 1951, shortly after the start of the Korean War. He was given special training as a cryptologist, attempting to break enemy codes. He left Korea and was stationed in Puerto Rico for a period of time before he was discharged in 1954. He was offered a job with the NSA, but after a short stint, he decided that he would return to Oklahoma to complete his Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration at OSU.
After graduating, he left for Los Angeles and found work in a stock brokerage company. He later changed careers, working for a steel manufacturing company as a Sales Representative, then as a Sales Manager for an international manufacturer and marketer of high performance metals, these careers spanning over 35 years. During this time he lived in Los Angeles, but moved to the San Diego area where he had been stationed before leaving for Korea, later coming to Orange County where he has lived ever since.
Bill is survived by “The Love of His Life”, his wife and sweetheart of 25 years, Leslie, and his three children, Lorrieanne Morris (Brandon), Gina Marler-Mulvenna (Bernie), William Marler (Nikki) and his stepsons, Richard Conlan and Bill GiWoff and Steve Flick (Kathy). He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren – Rachel, Jeffery, Jacob, Juliana, Bella, Matthew, Olivia, Crystal, Haley, C.J. and Drew, and 1 great-grandchild, Faith.
