Laura was born in Linton Township on September 29, 1916 to the late Jesse and Ella (Mortine) Hiser. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and graduated from the Sacred Heart School in 1934. On April 27, 1935, Laura married Vincent “Jack” Lauvray, who preceded her in death on June 4, 1976. Laura enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, and playing cards. She was the first cook at Sacred Heart Cafeteria, which opened on January 19, 1963.
Laura is survived by three children: Donald (Shirley) Lauvray, Jean (Noah) Raber), and David (Ina) Lauvray; 14 grandchildren: Steve, Lynn, Bob, Barb, Tom, Dan, Laurel, Donna, David, Jeff, Lisa, Greg, Amy, and Tammy; 31 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren (and she is expecting two more), sister-in-law, Esther Hiser, daughter-in-law, Marilyn Lauvray, and several nieces and nephews.
Along with her husband, Laura is preceded in death by her children, Barbara Ellen and James Louis Lauvray, her brother, Jesse Hiser, and her great-granddaughter, Abigale Lauvray.
A funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 31, 2016 with Father Victor and Father Blubaugh officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at Given-Dawson Funeral Home on Tuesday prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
