Carl Lewis Everhart, age 91, of West Lafayette, passed away on Tuesday, June 18, 2024. He was born on August 20, 1932, in Bucks Twp. In Tuscarawas County to the late William D. and Opal (Hardesty) Everhart.
On July 3, 1951, he married Liala Jean (Klein) Everhart and together they celebrated 70 years of marriage before she passed away on March 29, 2022. He is finally at peace and resting easier.
Carl was the Owner and operator of Everhart’s Lumber for many years. He hauled coal for Ross’s Trucking, worked for Baltic Rubber Plant, the brickyard outside of Strasburg, drove a flatbed semi for himself for many years and timbered the canal across from Lake Park with his son Jeff in November 1970.
Carl loved anything John Deere. He enjoyed tractor pulls including pulling at Bakersville Homecoming, The Old Gas n Steam Show in Dresden, the Coshocton County Fair and Adamsville Homecoming. Carl went by the nickname “Grey Dog'' which started back in his truck driving days. He won several trophies and awards over the years at tractor pulls. He competed in his last tractor pull just days before his 91st birthday.
He loved taking golf cart rides with his dogs Buffy, Penny, Pepper, Mitzy and Mitzy II. Carl enjoyed woodworking; including crafting all of his kitchen cabinets that are still like new. He built many interior doors and shelves within his home. He also built end tables, lamps, wooden trunks and much more with his craftsmanship lasting throughout the years.
He is survived by his three children, Jeffrey (Barbara) Everhart of Fresno, Christopher (Kellie) Everhart of West Lafayette and Lynn (Steve Jones) Everhart of Fresno. Nine grandchildren, Marie (Kevin) Kaser, Carl W. Everhart, Ashley (Andy) Kinney, Amy (Rick) Booth, Christopher (Megan) Everhart, Alia (Leon) McDuffie-Brady, Vanessa Postel, Jennifer (TJ) Darr, and Brandi Everhart. Great-grandchildren, Ethan, Garrett, and Kaylyn Kaser, Payge, Holland, and Axel Kinney, Allie Jones, Ricky, Kilee and Remi Booth, Valerie Everhart, Keyra and Ebony Hunter, Brayden Carmichael and Koda Darr.
Along with his parents and wife Liala, Carl was preceded in death by his daughter, Carla Postel, great- granddaughter, Rozalynn Kinney and siblings, Victor Everhart, Betty Elmore and Richard Everhart.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Bakersville Community Center/Park. Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home is serving the family.
