Vivian Eubank, age 94, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away May 30, 2010. Vivian, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mamie (Conner) Wristen, was born January 23, 1916, in Coleman, Texas. Preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Martell and son, James Robert, she is survived by son, Charles (Linda) Eubank, daughter, Mary (Bill) Braselton, nine grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, five nephews, one niece, and brother, Charles (Edna) Wristen of Abilene, Texas.
Vivian received the Phi Theta Kappa Key and graduated Summa Cum Laude from A&I University. She received an MA from West Texas State College, and administrative certification from Corpus Christi State University, and did post baccalaureate study at the University of Texas, Austin.
She served the community of Corpus Christi as a classroom teacher, department chair, administrator and college instructor for 45 years. Her distinguished career included memberships in AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma, and Phi Delta Kappa where she served in many leadership capacities.
She received the Paul Kaplan Humanitarian Teacher of the Year Award for CCISD, Santa Anna Ex-Student of the Year, the Del Mar College Former Students’ Association Wall of Honor, membership on the Texas State Textbook Committee, and a two year committee appointment to establish a collaborative student teacher program between CCSU and A&I Kingsville. She developed an authentic classroom experience for 6th grade honors student in collaboration with Channel 16 and published several curriculum guides for English Language Arts.
Second Baptist Church has been an important part of Vivian’s life for 60 years. She taught adult women’s Sunday School classes, served on vital committees, and received great satisfaction from helping to create the church charter.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, June 2, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Cage-Mills Funeral Home Chapel, 4901 Everhart.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 3, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Second Baptist Church, 6701 S. Staples. Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
