Virginia Cortes Aranda, passed away to be with the Lord Jesus whom she loved dearly on December 5, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico on May 24, 1930 to Luis Cortes and Maria Ruiz.
Virginia grew up in Ciudad Madero and had her schooling in Mexico. She came to the states in1947 and married our beloved father, Luis Aranda. Mother enjoyed living in Corpus Christi because the ocean reminded her of where she was born.
She was always taking short courses at Del Mar College to learn new skills and knowledge which would in turn help her to learn English. After taking a cashier‘s course, she was hired at H.E. B. for many years. With that experience, she and her husband opened a business called El Perico Record Shop #1 and #2. Furthermore, they sponsored Los Pericos, one of the first soccer teams in Corpus Christi. Virginia volunteered at KBNJ/KCTA Christian Radio Station as a Disc Jockey giving prayers and advice to the listeners.
Virginia will always be remembered as an excellent cook, always trying new recipes to share with family and friends, her talent in knitting blankets, caps and booties for her grandchildren, her amazing generosity in helping others, and her excellent memory. When Virginia became a born again Christian, she loved reading the bible and sharing the word of God with others to get closer to God. She was a member of Primera Iglesia del Nazareno and gave bible studies for many years.
Virginia is preceded in death by her husband, Luis Aranda, her parents, 2 step sisters, and a great granddaughter.
She is survived by her brother , Ramon Cortes (Tamaulipas, Mexico); daughters, Frances Daniels (Frank, of California), Mary Lou Gonzalez ( Jesse), Patricia Aranda; Sons, Rodolfo Aranda, George Aranda (Teresa); Grandchildren, Monica Ropp (Tuney of McCloud, Oklahoma), Rebecca Escamilla ( Jaime), Alejandro Gonzalez ( Mari), Richard Daniel Aranda (Valerie), Onesimo Aranda, Gabriel Aranda, Jessica Vela (Gabe), Rudy, David, and Cindy Vazquez (Hector), Nathaniel Dewolfe. 19 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren
Family wishes to send a special thanks to Holmgreen Center staff at Trinity Towers (4th floor) for their loving care bestowed to Virginia.
Visitations will be held at Funeraria Del Angel, 549 Cheyenne Street, on Wednesday, December 10 from 5pm to 9pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Funeral service will be celebrated on Thursday, December 11 at 1 pm followed with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
