Victor Mario Gutierrez, of Driscoll, Texas passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, of natural causes, at the age of 90. He was born in Realitos, Texas to Esteban and San Juana Gutierrez on January 19, 1933. After serving his US Army tour in New York City, Victor and his wife Tomasa moved to Driscoll in 1955 and became life-long residents.
Victor was a beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend whose kindness and warmth was known by many. He was a hardworking man who dedicated his life to serving his family and community. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Sears Roebuck and Co., Bullock’s Catalog Showcase, and the City of Driscoll. Victor was a former member of the Saint Anthony’s Men’s Club and the Lion’s Club of Driscoll. He served multiple terms on the Driscoll City Council and the Driscoll Independent School District Board of Trustees.
Victor was a proud American who served our country in the U.S. Army and had a passion for our democracy. He is remembered for often saying … ”Don’t Forget To Vote!” He was known for his funny pranks and jokes; and he maintained his sense of humor throughout his lifetime. It was seldom that you would see him without a smile.
His family fondly remembers him for the unconditional love that he showed them throughout their lives. Victor leaves a legacy of humility, love, laughter, kindness, grace, generosity, and integrity for future generations to emulate.
He is preceded in death by his parents Esteban and San Juana Gutierrez, his wife Tomasa Sanchez Gutierrez, daughter Tomasita (Tommie) Rodriguez and his grandson Gilbert Garcia, Jr. He is also preceded in death by his siblings Luciana Pena, Maria Theodosia Canales, Felicito Gutierrez, Apolonio Gutierrez, Esteban Gutierrez, Aniceto Gutierrez, Enedelia Palacios, Narcedalia Salazar, Margarita Perez and Guadalupe Gutierrez.
Survivors include children Debra (Gilbert) Garcia, Victor (Cassandra) Gutierrez, Jr., Susan (Arturo) Gomez, Richard (Christina) Gutierrez, son-in-law Eduardo Rodriguez; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Victor will be held on Friday, December 29th, 2023, at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 3502 Saratoga Boulevard in Corpus Christi, Texas. Visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. followed by mass at 11:00 a.m. A private entombment service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his honor to the Petronila Elementary School-Library, 2391 CR 67, Robstown, Texas 78380.
A public visitation for Victor will be held Friday, December 29, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 3502 Saratoga Blvd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A holy rosary will occur Friday, December 29, 2023 at 10:30 AM, 3502 Saratoga Blvd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415. A funeral mass will occur Friday, December 29, 2023 at 11:00 AM, 3502 Saratoga Blvd, Corpus Christi, Texas 78415.
