Wednesday, November 24, 2010. Born July 29, 1925 in Waco, Texas he was 85 years old. Tim was the only child of Timothy McClain Sherman and Jacque McMahon Sherman. He graduated from Waco High School in 1942 and entered Texas A&M University that fall.
World War II intervened into Tim’s life. A member of the greatest generation, Tim went ashore on Guam in August l944 as an Army private. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged from the Army in January 1945 to be inducted into the Navy in April. In June 1946 Tim was honorably discharged from the Navy with a rank of Seaman First Class. He returned to Waco, attended Baylor University and obtained a degree in Chemistry in 1950. Tim moved to Corpus Christi after being hired by Corn Products. He worked as a chemist at Corn until they closed the Corpus plant. He then worked at Tennessee Gas Pipeline until his retirement.
Although Tim’s mother always wanted grandchildren, Tim led a solitary life until 1968. That year he married Dorothy Jean Hill and became “dad” to seven children. His first years with his new family were a struggle yet he adjusted as he did in all things in life. Dorothy, Tim’s best friend, travel companion and wife departed his side and this life in 2006.
Tim Sherman is survived by his seven grateful children and their grateful spouses: Jim and Shelia Darst, Canyon Lake, Texas; Rick and Carrie Darst, Corpus Christi; Nora and Mike Gorski, San Marcos, Texas; John and Dianne Darst, Corpus Christi, Texas; Pete and Lori Darst, Corpus Christi; Becky and Bobby Whitehorn, Corpus Christi; Priscilla and Randy Gaston, Clover, South Carolina. He was the loving dad, grandpa, good friend, supporter and consistent positive force to his seven children, fifteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held in Corpus Christi at 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at Cage-Mills Funeral Directors. Burial will be in the Sherman family plot in Waco at the Oakwood Cemetery.
