Ruben was born to Ruben, Sr. and Amelia Rodriguez in Fowler, California on Wednesday, October 6, 1965. It was not long after Ruben’s birth, the little family of three moved back home to Corpus Christi, Texas and settled into life on Franklin Street. It was there little Ruben grew and became the best big brother to four younger sisters Lydia, Marina, Ida and Cristella. Years later, the brotherly siblingship extended to Claudia, Gladys and Edgar.
Ruben, who later became affectionately known as “Bro”, was raised in a home anchored in faith and taught him the love of the Lord. He grew up surrounded by examples of hard work, service to God and loving his family. He preserved these teachings in his heart and became a great example for the next generations. Ruben was always ready to tell a “Bro” joke, offer a helping hand, go kayak fishing, or unwrap tamales, especially those of Grandma Maria.
Computer science was his profession and delight, however, it paled in comparison to being a Dad. On September 21, 1995, Ruben welcomed his true happiness, Sara, into his life. Fatherhood was one of the most precious blessings bestowed to him and Ruben devoted the rest of his days to his little girl. He lovingly walked beside her, holding her hand every step of the way. As she grew, this faithful father stayed alongside her as she began her journey in life, from childhood to young adulthood and later down the aisle into marriage. Ruben delighted in the moments he spent with his sweet Sara. He was so thankful when God answered his prayers and sent them Noah. Ruben, with a father’s heart, was at peace knowing, if he had to give Sara away, Noah was heaven sent.
We will never forget Ruben, our brother, our Bro. His family will remember him full of life and overflowing with joy. His character and faith defined him. Even though Bro is physically missing in our family here on earth, we hold the faith that he is not only surrounded by his Lord and Savior but by all of those who have gone before him, especially his beloved mother, Amelia. Ruben’s last days were not what we would have wished for him, but our hope is secure that now he is home in his eternal joy. Bro will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by all who knew him.
