Ruben Vallejo Reyes, 66 years old, was born September 23, 1954 in Corpus Christi, TX. He gained his wings on March 28, 2021. He was raised in Corpus Christi, TX and graduated from Foy H. Moody High School in 1973. After 30+ years, Ruben retired as an Operator from Citgo Refinery.
Ruben was a loving husband, a father, a brother, an uncle, a grandfather, a friend and loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys. After football season, Ruben was often found listening to Little Joe or George Jones with a cold Miller Lite. He had a passion and appreciation for all things music. He would regularly be seen tapping his foot to any beat he could hear. Ruben was an amazing saxophone and harmonica player. Some of his favorite times included welcoming his many nieces and nephews into his home to reminisce, re-connect, barbeque and share a cold one. Bonding with the Reyes crew at the ranch in Freer, TX was always something he enjoyed.
Ruben was a jokester who earned a nickname “Cheater” from his many colleagues on the B-Shift. He cracked jokes, pulled pranks and enjoyed making others laugh. Ruben was an “old school” neighbor. He made deliberate efforts to connect and be the go-to guy; always supporting and helping neighbors anyway he could.
A Boy Scout at heart, he was a dedicated fan of the game show Survivor and secretly wanted to compete one day. He was incredibly safety conscious and would pride himself in “No Lost Time” efforts of his refinery family. When working nights, he was notorious for trying to “quietly” snack on Chicharones or Fritos when he arrived home.
Vacations, especially cruises that involved Tejano music, is where Ruben found solace. Traveling with his wife was something he truly could not get enough of. He adored his grandchildren deeply and always looked forward to teaching random historical facts, visiting the Science and History Museum, playing board games, and challenging them to a game of Chess or Chuck E Cheeses air hockey. He was ever present at little league games and was their number one fan. His grandchildren were truly the love of his life.
Ruben is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Terecita Reyes; his daughters Ruby (Jeremy) Hinojosa along with their daughter Camila, Rita (Juan) Hernandez and their children Janie Elizabeth and Juan Tomas “Bubba”, and his step-daughter Jennifer “Nena” Ramos. Along with his brothers Reynaldo (Dominga) Reyes, Ralph and Sister Rosalva (Richard) Ortiz. Ruben is preceded in death by his loving parents, Father Reynaldo Reyes, Mother Enriqueta Reyes and Brothers Rene and Richard Reyes.
